Scores will be tabulated using the National Yo-Yo League spreadsheet.

In a 2A freestyle, typical scoring elements include but are not limited to: loops, punches, wraps, tanglers, moons, hops, stalls, worlds, transitions, regenerations and various combinations and/or variations of these elements.

The top placing 2A competitor will be seeded into the 2A finals at the National Yo-Yo Contest (This seed will only be granted if the contest director of the National Yo-Yo Contest determines the level of competition in the region to be high enough)

Freestyle Judging - Championship Divisions

Freestyle scores in the Championship Divisions will be calculated in two components, technical execution and performance style.

Technical Execution Scoring:
The Championship Division freestyle judges shall judge a contestant's Technical Execution according to the following scoring criteria.

Positive Point Awards:

Negative Point Assessments:

Performance Style Scoring:
The Championship Division freestyle judges shall judge a contestant's Performance Style according to the following general scoring criteria.

The following elements of style are listed below as guidance to the judges and contestants. Evaluation of Performance Style is very subjective process and each judge may apply additional criteria and standards as to what they feel constitutes Performance Style in a yo-yoing freestyle routine.

Final Score

A contestant's final freestyle score shall consist of the algebraic sum of their positive and negative points for Technical Execution (T.E.) plus their points for Performance Style (P.E.).

The highest contestant's raw score from each judge will be normalized to 100 points and the other scores from that judge determined by multiplying 100 times a contestant?s raw score divided by the highest contestant?s raw score.

The average Final Score for each contestant shall be determined by averaging the normalized scores from each judge (to the nearest tenth of a point.) The contestant with the highest average normalized score will be the winner.

Ties will be broken based on which contestant has the highest preliminary score. In the unlikely event that there is still a tie (or if no prelims are held), the head judge has the ability to devise an appropriate tiebreaker, or can declare a tie. The decision of the head judge is final.

Championship Division General Rules

In the Championship divisions, contestants will have 2 minutes to perform a freestyle routine synchronized to their choice of music.

The timer starts when the music starts. No points will be scored for tricks done before the music starts, or after the 2:00 mark.

All music must be considered appropriate for all audiences. Performers with inappropriate music (obscenities, offensive content, etc.) will be disqualified. If you are unsure about your music, a judge will be available to listen to your music and make sure it is appropriate.

Music must be provided on a CD or CD-R. Disc must be clearly labeled as to the track to be used, and contestant's name. Music burned to CD-R must be in standard audio format. It is the players responsibility to ensure that the music they bring to the contest is compatible with the equipment provided. Incompatability issues from burned CD's, scratched CD's, or other problems are the players responsibility. If you have a music question or are unsure of compatability, check beforehand.

All musical CD's must be provided to the sound manager prior to the start of the freestyles for any division that a player is competing in.

Mini-Disc, MDLP, CD-RW, and DVD formats are NOT accepted.
Compressed formats such as MP3 or WMA audio files are NOT accepted.

Music must be in one track. Music extended over 2 tracks or over 2 media is not acceptable. Music in the final will be stopped between 2:00 and 2:01. Music less than the allotted time will be stopped after 1 track played.

If the music is stopped accidentally, the contestant may choose to continue his or her performance from the point that the music stopped or restart their performance at the end of the division.

All actions of a performer must take into account the safety of the audience, the facility, the judges, and the player. Judges have the ability at any time to disqualify a performer for behavior they deem dangerous or inappropriate.

While performing, only the contestant can be on the stage. Contestants can only use articles that they brought on stage. Contestants cannot use any yo-yos passed to the stage by others.

All judges decisions are final and not subject to protest.
