Novice Freestyle Rules

The Novice Freestyle division is intended for players beginning their freestyle career.

Novice Freestyles are 1-minute long set to music of the DJ’s choice.  Any style of yo-yo play is permitted in the Novice Freestyle.

Players entering the Novice Freestyle division may not enter any Championship Division.

Novice Freestyle Scoring

1. Cleanliness of tricks: Clean string, precise trajectories, defined string hits, smooth transitions, and overall ability to perform with accuracy. (40% of score)

2. Variation in style: Demonstration of ability to perform a wide variety of tricks encompassing the diversity within the style of play. (35% of score)

3. Uniqueness: Presentation of tricks that are uncommon or new in the competition environment. Also considered to be rareness, originality, creativity, unusual styles, etc. (25% of score)

    If you enter this does that mean that you can’t do a preliminary freestyle?
    Or could you do a preliminary and just forfeit advancing to Finals?

    This is probabbly late.
    So we have to use the DJ”s music?
    We can’t bring our music on a USB Stick?
    And I can do Novice and Sports ladder?

      Novice freestyle is DJs choice of music only. There are no exceptions. Also, per the music guidelines, all music must be on CD only, no USB sticks. You can enter ladder and novice freestyle.
